Max was our best buddy for nearly 11 years. He was so ornery! He liked to be in charge. True to his working dog nature, he loved herding our other animals and our children around. He was very vocal and was known for his barks which were clear “woofs”. Max had severe pdisplaysia from a young age and did have a hip replacement. Although this helped him for many years, he was never able to really enjoy long walks or strenuous physical activity. Instead, he played ball in the back yard and was the watchdog of the house. He was a loyal part of our family. He took many road trips and visits with us and he loved to bark at people and other dogs as we drove. Max was a mix of Great Pyrenees and Australian Shepherd. He had long, soft fur and what looked like a lion’s mane. His paws were like grinch paws with long tufts of fur between his toes. He was a beautiful dog. His thick fur made it possible for him to enjoy playing out in the snow. He developed a thyroid problem later in life and his fur became drier. He was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma in 2010. It was slow-growing but eventually did get to his brain. Along with his many tumors which impeded his gait, he eventually started to have seizures. Medication only managed these for a few months before we had to make the decision to let him go. It was the hardest thing we ever had to do but it was best for him. We know that now he is still watching over us but now is pain free and happy. We know that he will be waiting for us. As he always did, he will wait for us patiently. When we are together again, he will be able to walk and play ball and smile his wonderful doggy smile that we loved so much. We will never forget him!
